Anorexia WebControversial Aspects of Pro Anorexia

Pro anorexia is a controversial issue, referring to the character pro-active lifestyles of anorexics. There are many pro anorexia websites across the Internet that provide information to people suffering from anorexia. These websites offer tips, advice and support to people who are struggling with eating disorders.

Pro anorexia (pro-ana) websites claim that their goal is not to encourage and support the anorexia, but to prevent and eliminate its adverse effects. However, despite these assertions, pro anorexia web sites are primarily focused on helping people with anorexia to better cope with their condition, instead of revealing aspects of having such a dangerous eating disorder.

Through websites pro anorexia, people with anorexia are integrated into an online community, they mainly receive advice on how to take care of themselves and they are not encouraged to seek professional help. Pro anorexia websites challenge people with anorexia to accept their condition in regard to anorexia as rebels to fight against the classics, the old ideals and values.

Pro anorexia websites generally implement the idea of the superiority of the community of persons with anorexia, referring to anorexia as people with a strong will to take action to achieve their goals. Their behavior is valued and considered an act of courage.

The ideals promoted by pro anorexia websites are radically challenged and chastised by medical professionals. In their view, people who suffer from eating disorders like anorexia is engaging in acts of self-destruction. The truth is that anorexia is a very serious mental illness that can actually lead to death by starvation. Doctors and psychiatrists strongly recommend people with anorexia to accept and follow an appropriate treatment. Health professionals are disturbed by slogans promoted by pro anorexia websites and try to tell people with these eating disorders on the risks they face.

It is very important to understand that anorexia is a disease, not a lifestyle! A true act of courage is to ask for help, do not try to treat anorexia on your own. It is also essential to take prompt action to overcome eating disorders, to prevent further damage and health problems. Anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders can be treated, but a lot of ambition is involved in the process of overcoming the disease. People with anorexia usually denies having a problem and they isolate themselves from the rest of the world. Pro anorexia websites try to make these people feel soothed and integrate them into a community where they are perceived and appreciated. However, these websites do not encourage anorexics to take tougher measures of their condition. They focus on providing revenue and plans in place, thus contributing to their destruction.

People with anorexia should accept professional help and try to collect their report from an objective viewpoint. They must understand that there are better things in life than continuously counting calories and worrying about gaining weight.
