Temporal lobectomy procedure

• Using a scalpel, the surgeon makes an incision in the skin and muscles of the temporal region of the head on the side of the head above the ear and away from the scalp flap.

• The neurosurgeon removes a section of bone (bone flap) from the skull and makes an incision through the protective membranes of the brain (mother) to expose the temporal lobe.

• Using an operating microscope to enlarge the characteristics of the surgical area, the neurosurgeon removes the anterior temporal lobe.

• Once the bleeding is under control, all layers of cloth cut or split to reach the surgical site is closed.

• The cavity is irrigated thoroughly and the dura is tightly closed with sutures tack-up. The bone flap is turned up. Muscles and tissues are stitches, while the skin is closed with staples. No drain is necessary.

• Temporal lobectomy is optimal for patients with seizures that do not respond to medication, patients who are unable to tolerate the side effects of medications, or patients with seizures caused by structural abnormalities of the brain .....
