Autism TherapyHow do I get my school to get ABA treatment for autism.?

My son is 3 years old is autistic, and launch a program three years old for children with disabilities, but I do not think they have a program specifically for autism. I am interested in the ABA, but how do I get the school to integrate? We are a family of low income and can not afford a therapist ABA, because they cost thousands of dollars, but I was told that the school could be made to pay for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Call your company insurcence because many states have now adopted legislatin requiring insurance companies to pay for ABA for children with autism. Unfortunately, the school district did not provide some type of therapy, it will not appear on the FPI. These are the unpleasant facts of life. However, some districts do not have teachers who are trained to ABA and you may want to see if this is the case with your school district.

The McKay scholarship to help defray the cost of going to a school that provides training ABA. It will not cover the full cost because most of these schools are asking an arm and a leg.

I think the best thing to do for you is to get a lawyer who knows how to press the school district to do more than what they want. Autism Speaks is a national organization that may be lawyers in your area. As the Center for Autism and related disabilities can help with information. Also, if you go to the website of the Wright Act, you may be able to find more information on how to rattle your cage school district.

Finally, the ABA procedures are not rocket science and you can learn to do yourself. Here's a site that helps you learn some techniques.

in the United States - the children are entitled to a FAPE (free and appropriate education) in the least restrictive environment (LRE)

you need to make the case for the proper education they need to use a tailored approach to autism - especially the ABA ..

your district can pay for a private school that provides ABA and send your son over there ... or they may contratc with an agency to come to public school or they can hire their own tehrapists ABA

I think the McKay Scholarship is only for Florida

and an IEP can specify the ABA.

Sometimes it is written in the context of related services (with OT, ST)
or placement is a class ABA
