Caring For Dementia Can care for patients with dementia cause a state of dementia care? I can see why you ask. I care about someone who has "sundowners syndrome" (google) and it makes me a little crazy. Caregiver stress is real and has symptoms. LOOK UP Alzheimer's Association ... dedicated to the care, support and research of this devastating disease. Report Abuse I help take care of my mother who has Alzheimer's disease. After a long day with her (she does not engage in stimulating conversation) I feel completely exhausted. I often thought I was going down with him too. It is possible that if someone is wrapped in the care of a patient with dementia, a patient with a disease, and if they do not get enough rest and time away .... then they can begin to experience some symptoms identical or similar to the patient in their care. It is logical that when someone is so wrapped up in a disease and the effects of the disease they begin to be effected by this. No, it can cause exhaustion and fatigue that makes it hard thinking and memory. Some people begin to feel a sort of identification with the patient - is a form of empathy. I think the overwhelming personality of a person with dementia is very stressful to manage. Posted on March 26, 2010.
