Chickenpox Vaccine vaccine against chickenpox?? I asked about chicken pox and several people said, 'Why have you not had your son vaccinated? Na I know there was such thing as a vaccine against chickenpox?! Hes has had all jabs and vaccinations, hes 3 and no doctor or nurse had never talked of a vaccine against chickenpox. Do we have this in the UK and why I havent heard?? The vaccine against chickenpox is now licensed in the United Kingdom, but it is not part of routine immunization of children. The vaccine against the chickenpox virus (which causes chickenpox) is not currently recommended for standard use in children. In most cases, it is a mild disease and nearly 89% of adults in the UK will develop immunity to the disease. If the vaccine against chickenpox should be added to the list of childhood vaccinations, it is feared that there would be more cases of shingles in adults, until the vaccination was given to any population. This is because adults who have had chickenpox as a child are less likely to have shingles later in life if they were exposed at the varicella virus (eg children). This is because the exposure acts as a booster. Ask your pediatrician for his son may have already received the vaccine. They tend to combine vaccines when the shots are given. I'm sure you can call the office and ask them about it. In most, if not all, States United States the vaccine against chickenpox is necessary to start school at the age of five years. Recently, a second shot (JAB) has been recommended. Posted on March 14, 2010.
