Classic Autism

Classic AutismHow come people with classic autism are not enrolled in college?

That's another question about autism, and there are more people with Asperger's Syndrome / HFA entered college. I wondered why no individual with autism or classic will attend college?

It is not true that no person with classic autism attending university. Some people with classic autism DO go to college or enroll in college courses online. Not everyone with autism can go to college but for various reasons, such as:

- Some have severe cognitive impairment, if the studies would be too complicated for them.
- Some have a severe language delay, so that they can not communicate well or at all. They can not understand the word either.
- Some can not read and write, because of cognitive impairment.
- Some do not know how to interact with other people.
- Some have behavioral problems.
- Some really bad sensory problems, so they could not handle the sensory environment.
- Some have a very short attention span.
- Some do not want to go to college.
- Some have been underestimated and have not had sufficient learning opportunities to prepare them for university, because of expectations of other people on low among them. It is sometimes difficult to know how the autistic person understands they can not communicate.

Whether or not they can go to university depends on how much the individual can not work. Colleges welcome students who need reasonable accommodations. Sometimes, reasonable accommodations are simply not enough, then some people (if they are autistic or not) are unable to attend college. Colleges do not change the curriculum for students who can not handle the normal program for any reason.

Class autism is the most serious case a person with autism may have. Many people think it's more the lack of speech, but thats not really true, because you can be very intelligent and does not speak. But anyway, classic autism cases can not care for themselves, then they would need assistance to attend college for help. Flag

Asperger and High Functioning Autism are two different things. Report Abuse

I am autistic and I go to college. How do you know for sure that people with autism are not enrolled in college? Are you an expert in judging who is autistic or not? Sometimes you can not tell if people are autistic or not, especially when they have high autism function. I'm normal and I'm quiet, so people assume I'm just a quiet girl. They can not say I'm autistic unless they associate with me. I do not need to tell anyone that I'm autistic I do not need to have "autistic" label on my forehead. Sometimes it is best to keep my quiet state, because people will judge me differently depending on him.

Edit:

Sorry. I do not know what autism is classic. I think there are some people with autism who can not speak attending college.

My son has "classic autism". He is old enough to go to college. The reasons he could not go
"He can not speak no language at all
"He understands only simple commands like a child of two years would
"He still has accidents in his pants
"He can have bad behavior, he can put his head through the rock sheet so he butted heads with someone, and he does this, you knock him down.
"He bites
"He does not always know that you can not remove your clothes in public
