Classroom Acoustics

Classroom AcousticsImprove Acoustics and academics - Fight against noise for the class

The ideal classroom is where students can clearly understand the instructor during lectures and focus on tasks, projects and tests in an environment free of distractions. Here, we describe some of the soundproofing challenges faced in the classroom:

-In addition to the transmission of sound in the classroom. A classroom is not treated in the transmission of sound will not only allow his escape, but allow the transfer of outside noise in the classroom. Audible noise outside can be a major distraction and interfere with the quality of a learning environment. In addition, too much noise outside the building such as outdoor or students in a hallway eliminates the ability of a teacher to communicate effectively with students in the class altogether.

Many-hard, reflective surfaces: A challenge arises soundproofing a common issue for most classrooms, the presence of walls, desks and ceiling, each of which reflects sound waves in the room. As a teacher offers a conference, some of the sound waves produced by his voice reflects on the many hard surfaces in the room, a behavior known as the reflection of sound. Echoes delivered again in a classroom interfere with his intention, and is therefore one of the conduct sound wave in a classroom soundproofing.

Multiple voice-competitors in the room. Students can reinforce important basic skills in working with a team or partner on a project, but a noisy classroom environment can make group work difficult. With many people talking at the same time, a jumble of voices reflects on hard surfaces in the classroom, and the resulting impact interfere with the acoustics in the room. Noise levels are exacerbated further that students speak louder to be heard.

To prevent outside noise from bleeding inside and combat created reverberations in a classroom, treatments must target both acoustic sound transmission and sound reflection. Now take a look at how each of these behaviors sound can be mitigated in a classroom environment:

transmission-control noise by eliminating the noise transmission from outside classroom (and vice versa) is to isolate the chamber so that the ability of sound waves to transmit through walls and ceiling is compromised. Sound waves travel freely through the common points of contact, such as poles and walls around the classroom. Isolate a classroom can be accomplished by adding the density of each wall and the creation of a wall parallel to each surface separately. Adding density is often accomplished by coating the walls thoroughly with a heavy vinyl membrane acoustic as DB-Bloc. Once increased density is established, a set of horizontal slats on the wall creates a foundation for a new coat of plaster that form the surface of the wall second. This separation of forces outside of the sound waves to reduce space between two surfaces, rather than passing directly into the classroom, and also serves to protect the classrooms adjacent to the sound transmission from the treatment room .

Absorbing sound-reflection: Controlling sound reverberations caused by the voices and other sounds in a classroom can be achieved relatively easily with the installation of sound absorption panels along the walls and possibly the ceiling room. On the processing of sound absorption are available in a variety of styles to meet the requirements of different applications, including Class A Fire rated panels ideal for the classroom.

Properly implemented, the soundproofing.
