Dog Ear Yeast Infection

Dog Ear Yeast InfectionHow to recognize and treat a yeast infection Dog Ear

One of the most painful for us as dog owners, is to see our adorable pets suffer. After all, they are part of the family are not they? And what is worse is seeing them suffer knowing that we all depend for their well-being. I know because my wife and I have a dog bit spoiled.

Our dog is a little terrier hair unruly son, all 12 pounds when wet. Her name is Cassie and we love him very much. So when she came down with a yeast infection in his ear we were really upset because she scratched his ear to bleed. We had no idea that dogs can get yeast infections in the ears, so we took her to the vet to get her checked out.

The diagnosis was in fact a yeast infection of the ear. The vet wrote a prescription for some drops and after about two weeks, they worked to eliminate the infection, but the vet bill is a bit expensive. Wow, the total bill amounted to nearly $ 200 just for a diagnosis and a few drops for ears!

Unfortunately, a year later little Cassie showed signs of a yeast infection in his ear again. So I started doing research on yeast infections in dogs. Maybe I could find an effective treatment for Cassie was a bit cheaper than $ 200 a pop.

What I immediately found was that yeast infections are very common in dogs, especially in the ears because they are hot and humid which is an ideal environment for yeast to grow. A lot of different things can lead to a yeast infection in your dog's ear, but it is essentially an imbalance in your pet to the house.

Yeast is naturally in dogs and it will usually not bother the animal. But when there is an imbalance in the internal system of your pet, then the yeast can multiply and cause problems, namely, a yeast infection of the ear.

Many different circumstances can lead to an internal system of your dog being off balance, antibiotics can kill beneficial bacteria that keep yeast in check, a weakened immune system due to illness may allow yeast to grow, a scrape or wound in the ear may allow the yeast infection of the wound.

It is important to examine your dog's ears regularly to check whether anything irregular. Take a yeast infection early before it's out of control is essential to be able to deal quickly, effectively and save your pooch suffering.

When checking your dog's ears for a yeast infection, you want to specifically search for cuts, scratches, red rash, swelling, crispy crusts, oozing, and a bad smell. In addition, your dog will probably be too scratch his ear, or, possibly, rubbing his ear against an object (the ground) or with his paw, shaking his head and complain.

Very importantly, many bacterial infections have almost the same symptoms as yeast infections, but require completely different treatment. So if you're not absolutely sure, it is always preferable to have a vet check it out. But if your dog is prone to yeast infections and you recognize the signs, you can save a vet bill will happen again with the help of some home treatments that are very effective at cleaning yeast infections. These home remedies are just as effective as some drugs in veterinary prescribed, but much cheaper. Here's one you can try:

Once you have a confirmed case of yeast infection the first course of action is to clean the ear with an ear cleaning solution mild found more in all pharmacies. Or you can use a diluted solution of white vinegar and water. Gently squirt the solution into the ear canal, massaging as you do. Use a cotton ball to wipe off the excess fluid and debris. Allow the ear or ear pat as dry as possible. Now, use the herb pau d'arco, which is in most stores natural herbal and is known to kill yeast. Mix pau d'ar.
