Geriatric Activities Geriatric mental health problems with criminals? I am a service coordinator in a group home for mentally ill older people who have been in a psychiatric hospital because of inability to stand trial for a crime by reason of mental disease (s) I'm trying find books, magazines, etc. that help individual counseling and group sessions focusing on topics and in home activities that keep residents busy and productive. Where can I find information? hood luck on that one, I dint think there are books out there. I did a day treatment for mentally ill clients, all considered resistant Tx, a residence of 5 1 / 2 years. One thing I found is that the standard day treatment cannot be used, it bores people to death. In addition to this, Tx must change with the changing needs of customers. For activities that we have made great play of socialization, the favorites were uno, dominoes and a few other card games. I also let them play gestures, where they have to act on something. We read the newspaper for a while and discussed it, went to garage sales for supplies, cooked, and had many arts and crafts. twice a month, we played bingo, once and for small prizes like, deodorant, shampoo, socks, etc. and once for fresh fruit that they could not get enough of the residence. We took trips around the state, talked about everything under the sun began to solve problems, build a homogenous group, no planning, and changed attitudes and behavior. For me, it was a work 24 / 7 love. I was constantly looking for new ideas and better ways of doing things. If you care about and try to understand that you will do well. You just need to give him some time. Tees were people in most institutions of their lives, took the use and abuse and survived a manner of speaking. It takes time to earn their trust. Good Luck. check this link its good Posted on February 25, 2010.
