Geriatric Depression ScreenTesting Depression: a great help in the diagnosis of depressive disorders

Depression tests are given by health professionals to assess the level of depression of the patient. Depression Tests vary not only different in their series of questions, but on their assessment procedures as well.

Depression tests are grouped into self-test questionnaires given by health providers. There are several self tests to determine the level of a person to depression.

aec Self-tests

Zung Depression Scale - This is a test for 10 minutes with 20 questions. This is for people who have experienced symptoms during the last 2 weeks. The score includes 50-69 common scale for depression and 70 + for severe depression.

Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) - This test has a total of 20 questions. It was developed by Lenore S. Radloff for assessing symptoms of depression for the past week. It also monitors progress on a weekly basis, in an abbreviated form. Depression is present when there is a 16 + point gained. It is also the equivalent of 10 points as short.

Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) - This is for adults. It is a screening test with 30 questions and a short form of 15 questions. The scores indicate; = 10-19 for mild depression, 20-30 = for severe depression. For the short form, 4-10 = mild depression, 10-14 = Severe Depression.

Anxiety and depression screening test - These are screening questions to assess anxiety disorders as a mental illness.

Goldberg Depression Questionnaire - This is designed by Dr. Ivan Goldberg. It consists of 18 questions. It can be answered using a scale that meets their feelings. The score for comparison are the following: 54 + for severe depression, 36-53 for moderate to severe, 22-35 mild to moderate, 18-21 for borderline depressive, 10-17 for possible mild depression, 0-9 for the probable not depressed.

Wakefield Depression Questionnaire - It is composed of 12 questionnaires that can assess the signs of depression when you are to respond. A score of 15 points needed to care for a mental health professional.

Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) - This is commonly used by health providers. It has about 21 test questions that assess multiple patient for the last two weeks who need further treatment. The higher the score, the more severe is the depression.

The depression scale and Arkansas (D-ARK) - This brief instrument developed is checked by Dr. G. Richard Smith. It has 11 questions which assess the disorder for the last 4 weeks. It is classified by: 0-8 minimal, 9-12 mild, moderate or severe and 13-8 9 +.

Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) - This test screening for depression has about 10 questions that can evaluate the last 7 days, a further evaluation. 9 points + indicates suicidal tendencies and a + point for the evaluation of further care by health providers.

Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) - It has a total of 21 questions that assess severe symptoms. This is delivered by health professionals for appropriate monitoring. Grave indicates a high score.

Cornell Dysthymia Rating Scale (CDRS) - This test assesses symptoms dysthymia. It has about 20 test questions.

Depression tests are designed to determine the risk of developing a depressive disorder. The test is a series of questions regarding daily habits and mood swings. This can help identify symptoms and to more evaluation can be done by professionals.
