Geriatric PharmacyCareers in pharmacy, diplomas and certificates

Pharmacists are required to obtain a doctorate in Pharmacy or PharmD degree from a pharmacy school or college recognized. Students have completed two years of college before beginning study pharmacy. Technicians perform routine tasks in the preparation of prescription drugs, such as counting tablets, labeling bottles and mixing of ingredients if necessary. They also perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, stocking shelves, and operating cash registers. Technicians refer any questions regarding prescriptions drug information, or health issues at licensed pharmacist. Most pharmacy technicians on the job experience, but some pharmacy schools and colleges now offer courses that can lead to certification or an associate degree.

License
Pharmacists need a license in the state they practice in all states require licenses. License is achieved with the completion of a series of examinations. As with other health professions continuing education is required to maintain the appropriate level of knowledge.
Pharmacy technicians do not require licensing, but some states now require certification and training.

Advanced degrees
Pharmacists can take additional training and education to achieve a Masters in pharmacy that is earned by pharmacists who are in research and development or management of pharmacy providers.

Certifications
additional certifications are available for pharmacists in specialties such as
Disease State Management-Identification, treatment and prevention of diseases within a defined population
Nuclear pharmacy, specializes in drugs for the radiotherapy and nuclear medicine
Pharmacy-Nutrition Support Certification in the care of patients receiving specialized nutritional support
Oncology Pharmacy-drugs for cancer treatment
Medication-use certification of drugs for patient care.
Pharmacy-addresses the use of psychiatric drugs for patients with psychiatric illnesses related
Geriatric Pharmacy drug therapies for the treatment of diseases of the elderly.

Pharmacy Technician Certification
Although most pharmacy technicians have the training and some courses in school, some employers favor those who took a certification exam. There are two organizations, the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and the Institute for the Certification of pharmacy, offering national certification exams. The certification is voluntary in most states, but is required by some states and employers. Renewal of certification is conducted every two years. The training is mandatory for each renewal period of certification. hours of training may be obtained from various sources, including colleges, associations of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and training programs as well as gained under the direct supervision and instruction of a pharmacist on the job.
