The sense of hearing is an important part of life. If nothing else, it serves as a safety valve against the danger. If you hear screaming tires car, your hearing will tell you which side it comes. You suddenly look in the direction of the sound and see the car coming towards you, allowing you to exit the fast lane. If you suffer a loss of hearing, you can not hear the tires at all, what you get hurt or worse.

Hearing loss is the result of the deterioration of the auditory system of the ear. The ear consists of outer, middle and inner ear chambers. The rooms in the ears contain structures that help us to hear. Hearing loss occurs when these structures are damaged by disease, trauma, or infections.

Four types of conductive hearing includes, of perception, mixed, and central hearing loss. Hearing loss can be confused with other conditions such as depression or dementia, and usually occurs in the elderly population. As we raise the age, hearing loss is common. This is due to the destruction of hair cells in the cochlea. These hair cells are vital to hearing. Once they are destroyed, they can not be replaced, which makes a permanent hearing loss.

Signs and symptoms:

Constantly need to be repeated conversation
extreme volume on the television, radio or other electronic device
Depression
Withdrawal of social
Unable to understand speech
No response to sound

In adults, hearing loss can be gradual and not noticed at first. Many times it is not recognized until the damage to the auditory system is vast. At other times, it is not picked until a visit to the doctor for other reasons. Your doctor will then determine the type of hearing loss you have, the degree and location in the acoustic system, it happened. In addition, hearing loss in adults can be attributed to aging (presbycusis), tumors, viral infections such as flu or herpes.

In children, hearing loss may be due to bacterial or viral insults to their systems. Although this can happen at any age, they are the most common reason for hearing loss in children: mumps, rubella, meningitis and multiple sclerosis.

Diagnosis and treatment:

A thorough medical examination and diagnostic tests are used to determine if a hearing loss. Other causes of hearing loss must be excluded as well.

The treatment of hearing loss include surgery, hearing aids, and medications, and can be prevented by early diagnosis and treatment. It is important to protect your hearing, to avoid losses. If you work in noisy places like a factory where the machines are running high, wearing hearing protection can save your sense of hearing.
