* A Thrombosed Hemorrhoid (blood clot that forms in the haemorrhoid) appears dark red or purple. Thrombosed hemorrhoids are usually painful and are usually accompanied by a large degree of swelling of the affected area.

External hemorrhoids can also bleed in severe cases, because of irritation and harder stools. This type of hemorrhoid can often take a brownish color and may appear as a single mass, such as grapes (complete, flattened or wrinkled), cluster, or small beads hanging from the anus. The size, shape and number that are visible in each person varies.
