Laxative Eating Disorder

Laxative Eating DisorderAbuse of laxatives is considered an eating disorder?

The daughter of my gf just his mother that many girls in school has lost tons of weight this summer by taking laxatives in the summer. He is the best friend taking 6 per day. This seems very unhealthy and extreme for me. T it of depriving your body of water and nuitrients causing malnutrition / dehydration? I really can not find much info on the websites MD. Any thoughts? My gf is afraid that her daughter will fall into this trap, what should it look?

a professional to handle this like an eating disorder and it is not healthy at all! take laxatives too much may cause permanent damage to your intestinal system without speaking (as you say) and you dyhydrate malnourish. if she is concerned about her daughter fall into the trap of your GF should just simply tell him about it. if she sits in search of signs, she can not catch on until it is too late. talking to her daughter, she can establish lines of communication open not only for that, but for any problem in the future. In addition, it gives the opportunity to teach her daughter about exercise and good nutrition as a way to lose weight rather than laxatives or other drugs there. Maybe if the matter is that the girl really want to lose weight they may have a mother / daughter time of year that will also bring them together.

It is very dangerous.

Yes. By abusing laxatives and enemas, some people with eating disorders try to rush food through their bodies before the calories can be absorbed. These practices are harmful, even potentially lethal, and they are not an effective method of weight loss.

* You can upset your electrolyte balance. Electrolytes are minerals like sodium and potassium that are dissolved in the blood and other body fluids. They must be present in quantities very precise and accurate reports to the proper functioning of nerves and muscles, including cardiac muscle.

* Laxatives and enemas (and forced vomiting) can upset this balance in essential minerals, hunting out of the body, causing muscle cramps, tremors, spasms, irregular heartbeat, and in some cases of cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest, and unless the person receives emergency treatment of immediate medical attention, he / she dies.

* Laxatives and enemas (and vomiting) remove needed fluid from the body. The resulting dehydration can lead to tremors, weakness, blurred vision, fainting spells, kidney damage and, in some cases death. Severe dehydration requires medical treatment. Drinking fluid may not hydrate cells and tissues quickly enough to prevent organ damage or death.

* Laxatives irritate intestinal nerve endings, which in turn stimulate muscle contractions that move the irritant through the gut and body. After a while the nerve endings no longer respond to stimulation. The person must now take increasing amounts of laxatives to produce bowel movements. He / she has become laxative dependent and without artificial stimulation may not have any stool at all.

* Laxatives and enemas strip protective mucus that lines the colon, leaving it vulnerable to infection.

* Enemas can stretch the colon, which over time becomes a soft bag with no muscle tone. He can not produce the muscle contractions necessary to move fecal matter out of the body.

* Laxatives abusers seem to have more trouble with the following problems than non-users are: irritable bowel syndrome (rectal pain, gas, and episodes of constipation and diarrhea) and colon tumors (benign and cancerous ).

It can cause "lazy bowel syndrome" and deprives the body of nutrients. This is an eating disorder legitimate and should be treated medically.

Laxative abuse is considered a symptom.
