Unfortunately, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is seen in the largest number of 1 200 of our children. It usually begins in adolescence or early 20s, but it can sometimes be diagnosed in children who are still in primary school.

thought disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder is mentally very intrusive, sometimes causing people to question the very notion of freedom of thought. It is manifested by the presence of intrusive, recurrent, intense thoughts (obsessions) and / or compulsions (behaviors) that the patient does not have, because they are so irrational that they make the victim the impression that he or she is mad.

These obsessions and compulsions are not desired by the patient and interfere with daily functioning and quality of life. Obsessions are recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are unwanted and cause intense anxiety and distress. They are pathological, involuntary, irrational, unrealistic and are not disproportionate worries of real life from day to day.

Compulsions, on the other hand, are repetitive actions or rituals (like checking something over and over, washing hands, cleaning, hoarding, keeping things in order, etc.) or mental acts ( such as counting, repeating words silently, etc.) that are unnecessary and often time consuming. Usually, the obsession and compulsion are linked; I fear this bad thing will happen if I stop checking or hand washing, so I can not stop, even if it does not make sense. Compulsions are often not attempted to allay the anxiety caused by obsessions.

Because these obsessions or compulsions cause intense anxiety and convincing, they can interfere with normal activities Childs, academic functioning, social activities and relationships. Therefore, if the disease is not treated early enough, it can have long-term psychological consequences.

The thoughts, themselves, may vary with age Childs and even change over time. For example, a younger child may be inflexible thoughts (obsessions) that harm will come to himself or a family member because of an intruder coming through an unlocked door or window. Even after parents have methodically Childs showed him that each zone is locked, the child may still compulsively check all doors and windows (strain) after his parents are asleep.

Fear and want to check is so compelling and unusual that the child may fear that he may have accidentally unlocked a door or window while its last audit, so he has to check compulsively again and again. The actual evidence does little to allay the anxiety of patients. Only control of himself to do, but for a very short time, until the fear resurfaces and leads to another tower.

As another example, a child with older or adolescent may fear that he will be sick of contaminated knives or forks. To cope with these feelings, he may develop rituals (repetitive behaviors or actions), as methodically and repeatedly wiping his tools before he eats, even if the healthy part of his mind told him that it is not necessary.

Research shows that OCD is a real brain disorder and can run in families. However, a person may also develop, with no family history. Invariably, the OCD victims feel shame and embarrassment about their symptoms. Anxiety is so irrational and convincingly that children fear this means they are mad. Therefore, they may be very reluctant to discuss their thoughts and behaviors very abnormal.

Education and sensitive dialogue between parents and their children suffering can increase understanding and help parents support their children adequately. Most children with OCD can be treated.
