Orthopaedic Specialists

Orthopaedic SpecialistsOrthopaedic experts please help!?

Hi there

My uncle is 78 and has suffered for yeasrs arthritis and osteoarthritis. (He also got osteoporosis). He had his big toe amputated several years ago that the bone was "disintegrating." It juat saw an orthopedic surgeon who said the only thing they can do is "break" his toes to see if they will fuse together. I heard that the replacement toes become commonplace today. Certainly, there is something else that can be done?

Can someone please give advice, if nothing else, to prevent it from getting worse?

Thank you in advance.

There are probably many people who will give you plenty of advice on the treatments they have heard little and know nothing. The only person who does not know what they're talking about is the orthopedic surgeon. Thats why they are called specialists, because they know the most about this area! I understand that you are worried about your uncle, but the surgeon will uncles interest at heart! there is probably another procedure that can be done but Yahoo Answers is not the best place for such a request. If you're really worried or believe that there is another available treatment, consult another orthopedic surgeon
