alternative methods that may work? Homeopathy course springs to mind - does anyone know where the pills? Or any other method to deal with that?

The medical school (I think in 1950) has shown that very high doses of vitamin C (requires intravenous infusion) were very effective in removing shingles and postherpetic neuralgia. You'll need to find a doctor or a qualified naturopath doctor for such treatment.

You can try very high doses (1000 - 2000 mg) of vitamin C orally every hour during the day. These high doses can cause diarrhea in some. Moreover, even these doses may not be able to increase serum levels of vitamin C high enough to be effective.

Also remember to consult your chiropractor. Spinal manipulation of vertebrae was interested in my clinical experience, helped some recover more quickly from herpetic pain.

I know this is not popular, but many studies have shown that smoking marijuana can relieve that pain. It is illegal, but who cares when you're in pain. I could not stand and watch someone in pain, if I knew he could be found.

There is a pain patch is given to people with shingles. He should check with their doctor. Unfortunately the pain of shingles can last a lifetime! Good luck!
