Sleep Apnea Video

Sleep Apnea VideoSleep Apnea Study - perhaps your most important night of sleep!

People who do not sleep well and wake up from sleep with a sore throat and the feeling that they have not slept at all during the night, may be suffering from sleep apnea. Others suffer both from lack of sleep sleep at totally inappropriate, as in meetings, movies, stage presentations, and even while driving!

Some of these people have the chance to sleep with a partner involved, telling them they hold their breath throughout the night and out of breath, than repeat this stage "sleep" again and again.

If a person goes to a doctor and described the symptoms, a study of sleep apnea during the night will undoubtedly be ordered. Medically, the study of sleep apnea is called a polysomnogram or PSG.

In a study of sleep apnea, you must first be escorted to a bedroom. The room is well equipped with comfortable beds, will be cool enough for you to sleep and clean sheets, pillows and blankets arranged to suit your sleeping preferences.

There are various devices that will connect to you during the study of sleep apnea. Most people are not even concerned about them because they are not painful and there are no needles involved.

An apparatus for measuring your brain waves. This is called an electroencephalogram (EEG). Another device will measure your eye movements and chin, which is called electroculogram (EOG). Both machines will measure your stages of sleep, like when you enter REM sleep. In addition, you'll be hooked to an electrocardiogram (ECG). An ECG measures your heart rate and rhythm of your heart. You have chest band around your chest to measure breathing movements you can do.

Other monitors are used to measure levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood. There is another device that records all movements of the leg, and still another, called sensor nasal airflow measures the amount of air passing in and out of your nostrils.

All these devices are essential for an accurate picture of your sleep pattern is recorded and can be evaluated. Chances are you are not even aware of different times to wake you out of breath, or when your legs expel or even when you're holding your breath for incredible lengths of time. All these devices will be delivered that and more with the use of computers, recorders and video game machines.

From time to time during a test, the screen will indicate that you're probably suffering from sleep apnea and a CPAP machine or continuous Positive Airway Pressure can be introduced. Once your test is completed, you are awake and have all these devices removed. Most sensors are held by a small amount of glue was placed on small electrodes before being attached to your face and scalp. The glue is very easy to remove. You can then shower and get dressed and go to work or at home.

There is a night or two studies based on clinical and test results of the first night. So do not be alarmed if one night is needed.

A study of sleep apnea can be a disadvantage because you do not sleep in your bed, but most clinics make it as comfortable as possible. The test itself is painless and can be the most important night of sleep in your life!
