Thyroid Blood Test Results

Thyroid Blood Test ResultsThe reference values for blood tests
Interpretation
The range is generally defined as the set of values of 95 per cent of the population is normal (that is, 95%) or two standard deviations from the mean, although the definition may vary (see definition of reference range). It is determined by collecting data from a large number of laboratory tests.
plasma or whole
All values (except the exceptions listed below) indicate the concentration of blood plasma, which is about 60-100% larger than the actual blood levels, if the amount in red blood cells (RBCs) is negligible. The precise factor depends on the hematocrit and the amount inside red blood cells. The exceptions are the values that essentially means the concentration of whole blood, and in this article are:
All values in hematology - red blood cells (hemoglobin, except in the plasma)
All values in hematology - the white blood cells
The platelet count (PLT)
Some values are for the inside red blood cells that:
Vitamin B9 (folic acid / folate) in red blood cells
mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC)
Units
Mass concentration (g / dL or g / L) is the unit of measurement most common in the United States. Is usually given to dL (dcl) as the denominator for the United States, and usually with L (liters), for example, in Sweden.
molar concentration (mol / L) is used to a greater degree in most of the rest of the world, including the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe and Australia and New Zealand.
International Units (IU) are based on measured biological activity or effect, or for certain substances, a specified mass equivalent.
The enzyme activity (kat) is commonly used for such tests as liver AST, ALT, LD-GT and Sweden.
Arterial or venous
If this is not well determined, a reference range for a blood test is usually the venous line, the normalization process of obtaining a sample is venepuncture. An exception is for the acid-base and blood gases, which are usually given for the arterial blood.
However, the blood values are roughly equal between arterial and venous parts for most substances, with the exception of the acid-base, blood gases and drugs (used in therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM ) tests). pressure medication levels are generally higher than the venous levels because of extraction through the tissue.
Inaccuracy
Main article: Reference range # Vagueness
References range varies with age, sex, race, diet, use of prescription drugs or herbal, stress and even the instruments used. The samples may deviate from the normal distribution. In addition, reference ranges are only appoint usual values in the population, and are not directly correlated with the ranges for optimal health. In case of substantial difference, it can also be an optimal range established for the substance. Finally, the test procedure itself may be incorrect or inaccurate.
Sorted by concentration

Smaller and narrower boxes indicate tighter regulation homeostatic, measured as the standard "normal reference range.
Mass and molarity
Hormones are predominant on the left side of the scale, shown with a red ng / L or pmol / L, being in very low concentrations. There seems to be the largest group of substances in the yellow (g / L or nmol / L), more and more scattered in the green (mg / L or mol / L). However, there is another group contains many substances such as cholesterol metabolism and glucose to the boundary with the blue (g / L or mmol / L).
To translate a substance from the molar concentration scale mass above:
Numerically: the mass concentration molar concentration x = molar mass
Directly measure the distance on the scale:
Where distance is many decades or "octave" to the right of the concentration of mass is for.
