Thyroid Readings

Thyroid ReadingsIs the thyroid with low readings make you lose weight?

My son is 30 years, and the use of weights 150 #. Now it is 120 #. the doctor said that her thyroid level is low. What is the way to get up?

low thyroid is more likely to cause weight gain, if the two conditions may be independent. Your son may be necessary to take a supplement of thyroid (like Synthroid) for the rest of his life.

The usual cause of low thyroid is an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's disease (I am not sure of the spelling, but that's how it sounds). People who have an autoimmune disease often develop others, it is possible he has another condition that causes weight loss.

Another possibility is to confuse the test results are given so - if high levels of thyroid hormones in her body, then his number will be low TSH test. (And vice versa.) If it has a low TSH, and weight loss is very understandable, and should be treated for it. TSH stands for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, and the bottom of your thyroid function, the more TSH is produced. If your thyroid is normal, the TSH levels are quite low, and if the thyroid is producing, the TSH levels are even lower. So the question is, are the numbers of TSH or its low thyroid function? Low number of TSH are usually related to weight loss, while low thyroid function is generally accompanied by weight gain.

The doctor who saw your son would have given him something if he felt it was necessary. The thyroid is low the only problem? Lose 30 pounds do not come from a slow metabolism - just the opposite. Generally, people with a slow (hypo) thyroid can not burn calories and weight gain. Of course, your son is an adult who is perhaps not everything you say ...

My husband had this. Whatever you do, do not let doctors kill the thyroid with radioactive iodine. My husband had this and ended up winning a lot of weight. It is now overweight and no matter what doctors do, it will not back down. There is now medication the rest of his life to take the place of his thyroid.

No, having an overactive thyroid will make you lose weight.

Hello, im 28 and recently discovered tha my rates are low thyroid, called hypothyroidism, which means that everything is starting to slow down, including my metabolism. In time everyone will be down at the thyroid, but in some cases, like your son and mine, he dropped earlier in life than others. the doctor can only try to maintain the level of the thyroid to ensure it does not drop any lower, sometimes after taking the tablet thyroxine levels may increase. This results in weight gain. My father has an under active thyroid and the doctor said that its more or less hereditory. all he gave me was Thyroxin tablets to speed up my metabolism so I eat everything can be burned more quickly so that I'm not gaining too much weight. Hope this is useful because it requires good for me because I just heard the thing Sdam.

Firstly, you should ask your doctor this question. I have a thyroid problem very low (inactive), my doctor put me on a thyroid med (synthyroid). I took it for twenty years. Once you start taking this med is a perscription life span required for the rest of your life. There is no cure for this disease of the thyroid, the only treatment. There could be many reasons why it is losing weight, I say to consult your doctor about what he has to say about the treatment.

thyrtoid function, and TSH, the hormone that stimulates the thyroid are complex and you should see a doctor to discuss, not us asking for answers. thyroid function can affect weight, but doc says its low thyroid is not really give you enough information here. ask to be referred to an endocrinologist at the main hospital of your room if necessary.
